2 . Stay emotionally intelligent
Emotional intelligence is widely recognized as a valuable skill that helps improve communication, management, problem-solving, and relationships within the workplace. It is also a skill that researchers believe can be improved with training and practice. Being emotionally intelligent in the workplace will mean that you must be :
Self- aware : This is the ability to recognize your emotions and their impact while using gut feelings to guide your decisions . Can you walk into a room , meet a stranger , attend a meeting and quickly sense that something is not as it seems ?
Socially aware : You must possess the ability to sense, understand and react to the emotions of others and make them feel socially comfortable . Can you tell when you are making another person uncomfortable or when someone who is smiling is really upset?
A self manager : I know you are thinking , how does one even manage self ? , how can this be achievable?
Self Management is the ability to control your emotions and behavior to adapt to changing circumstances . Can you adequately harness your anger, disappointment or fear so your emotions don’t interfere with your ability to listen or solve problems ? Do you know when you need help, and can you ask for it ?
A relationship manager : As an emotionally intelligent person, you have to be able to influence , inspire and connect to others and to manage conflict . Can you remain calm, energized and focused in the face of distress or during an upsetting situation? Can you defuse conflict with humor or by listening convincingly to another’s point of view?
In summary, for you to be relevant in the future of work , there must be a display of high level of emotional intelligence, you must have empathy, integrity and work well with others. Those who have high EQs will be in demand.
3. Stay learning with a growth mindset
Experiment by learning new things. Our brains crave certainty and feel more comfortable sticking with the status quo, rather than exploring something new. As you learn, focus on progress while perfecting and sharpening your skills along the way. Possess the ability to improve on what you have learnt, learn from mistakes , take on challenges and actively seek new knowledge. Have a growth mentality , People with a growth mindset believe abilities like talent and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. They are more likely to enjoy learning, seek out situations to experiment, and see failure as an opportunity to grow.
