Welcome to a great week!
RISE Youth of the Week is Simi Fajemirokun from Nigeria.
Simi Fajemirokun is one of the young Nigerians listed on the Top 10 Young Nigerian Entrepreneurs under 30. Her advisory company; ESFAJ & Partners, was founded due to the abhorrence she had as regards the way foreign firms provide Nigerian agencies with mediocre consulting services. She has done a lot towards the rebranding of the Nation’s image overseas and even contributed in no small measure toward positive growth at home through the Abuja Global Shapers initiative and the Read2Succeed program.
Her brilliance and knowledge as regards national issue is unmatched and her energy and devotion towards effecting change is highly admirable.
Simi was raised in the U.S and the U.K but always yearned for the opportunity to work, serve and make a difference in the developing world. She was a project manager for a large Pharmaceutical company in the U.S but decided to resign her job so as to live and serve in her country of origin-Nigeria, a land largely unknown to her.
Upon returning home, Simi picked up a job in the public sector as a consultant which exposed her to a lot of the fundamental issues ailing the country. The experience and exposure she garnered led her to set-up a business advisory firm to work as a consultant that will help government agencies work more effectively and efficiently to positively impact and improve the lives of the citizenry.
Simi holds a BA in International Relations and Politics from the University of Reading, United Kingdom; certifications in International Negotiations and Project Management. She is Board member of Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative, an Abuja-based NGO focusing on orphans/vulnerable children and providing free HIV/VCT testing in rural areas.
She also participated at the Google Summit Against Violent Extremism held in Dublin where I was part of the team that developed strategy for the role of Social Media in de-radicalizing youth in extremist groups around the world. Simi is a recipient of the Good Planet Foundation award.
Simi’s focus has been on strategy development, crisis management and information management.
Her Interests: improving image of the African region by highlighting its potential and telling its success stories.
