Lagos Youth Week 2018 brought together young people from different areas of Lagos State from Monday, August 6thth to Sunday, August 12th 2018 for a week of business funding, deep insight, talks, networking and so much more.

Held as part of the Nigerian commemoration of the 2018 International Youth Day as declared annually by the United Nations, the programme was organised by Rise Networks, Nigeria’s leading Social Enterprise whose mandate focuses on using Tech Innovation to create advocacy, skills empowerment and learning opportunities for the inclusive growth of Youth with the core objective of preparing them for effective Value Based Leadership at all levels in the Public, Private and Social Sectors with the support of Lagos State Government.

The week-long program of activities was aimed at creating safe spaces for Youth through education, economic empowerment and political inclusion and young People especially those at the grassroots.

The event held across all the 20 Local Governments and 5 Divisions of Lagos State and had between 50,000 – 100,000 students, young professionals, young artisans, young traders, graduates of tertiary institutions and young entrepreneurs in attendance and participating in the different activities lined up.

The Lagos Youth Week kicked off on the 6th of August with a Business pitch competition tagged the Local Government Youth SME Competition which was held at different locations across the 5 IBILE Divisions of Lagos State: Ikeja held on Monday 6th at the Agege Stadium, Badagri on Tuesday 7th at Badagry Grammar School, Ikorodu on Wednesday 8th at the Ikorodu Youth Centre, Lagos Island on Thursday 9th at the Rowe Park, Yaba and Epe Friday 10th of August at the Epe Youth Centre. Over 300 micro business owners between the ages of 18 and 40 had the opportunity to pitch their business ideas with 100 of them (5 from each Local Government making 20 from each of the Divisions) winning N50,000 each as funding for their businesses.

On Saturday 11th August, the Blue Roof Centre of the LTV Complex played host to the next leg of the Lagos Youth Week, the Mega Youth Conference. The Conference featured a Keynote Speech by the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello.

On Sunday 12th of August 2018 the Lagos Youth Week wrapped up with a thrilling Mega Youth Musical Concert which featured performances from a bevy of Nigerian music superstars including Reminisce, 9ice, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Slim Caise, Mz Kiss, Small Doctor, Idowest, CDQ, DJ Neptune and DJ Jimmy Jatt. The Mega Youth Concert was also a platform for several young and aspiring musicians to showcase their talents to the adulation of the full house crowd as well as a dance competition.
